For what seemed like moments ago, Static watched as his mother vanished into darkness. A barrier constructed of space of time kept him from reaching her. And there'd been nothing he could do. Everything went dark and then there was nothing.

Until now. There was grass, the sounds of chirping birds and the sun getting in his eyes. Immediately Virgil sat up in a panic and looked around frantically.

"Mom!?"

But as far as he could tell, there was nothing. Worse than that, he realized he was in nothing but a pair of white pants that he had way more sense than to ever pick up for himself. And he was in a forest, which didn't bode well. Okay, so you're Virgil right now. In the middle of nowhere. Possibly in Medieval times if Timezone messed things up.

"Oh man. Not good."

Warily, he began to explore.

[Action - Afternoon]

So he was stuck in a place called Luceti. The first thing he did, once he got a chance to be by himself, was circle back to the clothing store and assemble his Static outfit. He found his metal disc at the item shop not long after. So once he felt confident with his much weaker powers, he took off towards the barrier. After about fifteen minutes of pumping it with electricity and getting nowhere, he decided it would be a bad idea to drain himself completely and be forced to walk all the way back to the town. So he returned to town, found a convenient power outlet to draw power from at the Tea Shop, and finally decided to do something about the journal. The question was... introduce himself as Static or as Virgil Hawkins?

Well, the answer was obvious.

[Voice]

So hey, Static here. If you haven’t heard of me, I’m a superhero from Dakota City. But really, has anyone heard of me? No, it’s not in North or South Dakota. I get that a lot. So I guess you could kinda say I’m new here. But I was kind of wondering about how to deal with the superhero thing. There's others here, right? The secret identity thing is pretty important, after all. But it's probably gonna be hard keeping it secret in a small town like this. Unless I just wear the mask all the time. I could probably do that if I have to.

Man, I just wish the Justice League was here. Batman would have already found a way out of this place by now.

When the cultists are out to kill you, it's bad. They're seriously power. Plus, for a lot of the people here some of the cultists are dangerous. They've got these guys that can pretty much shut people's powers off.

[Even for normal people it was dangerous, but, he can't even imagine how the other guys feel when they lose their abilities.]

[His shoulders tense as Static talks about them as interchangeable parts. It's a little like the kind of stats that fanboys rattle off. "Which one do you think lives downstairs" was a conversation that came out of the Young Avengers' apartment early into their stay.

It's only when Alfred is invoked that he softens at all. Alfred is the universal peace flag as far as he's concerned. It would be insulting to him if Robin kept his guard up after that.]

First one. Second one's here too. I'll tell him you're looking for him.

So. You're Nightwing, right? I mean. You become Nightwing. That's what I always figured. I mean, it's obvious you're not Batgirl.

[He does sound genuinely excited by this. The first Robin? How many kids dreamed about being Batman's sidekick? Okay, well maybe not Static. He wanted to be Green Lantern's sidekick. But still, that's pretty darn cool.]

I'm just saying. Sure seems like a quick way to earn distrust. [ amon cough amon ] Besides, the school and family thing probably doesn't even apply here.

[Several parts of that message caught his attention, but Joker's keeping the camera covered and sticking with writing - if this kid knows Batman, he could be trouble. Or he could be fun to mess with - either way, there's no point in showing his face just yet.]

Didn't even know Dakota City had superheroes - no offense. Then again, I don't really get out of Gotham much, so there's probably a lot that I don't know about as far as that stuff's concerned.

Can't say I've heard about any members of the Superfriends showing up, though - don't know how much they could help anyway.

Maybe not here. But how do I know that some of this won't manage to get back home afterward?

[He doesn't sound too confident though.]

[This is kind of weird, but no big deal. Huh.]

Well it would be less pressure on me, that's for sure.

Everyone forgets this place when they go home. It's just one of those things.

And just trust me, if you ever get drafted be overly prepared for anything. These guys aren't going to come at you with a knife like some thug in the street.

[He thought he was ready for it too. But, how wrong he was. Though he needs to stop this. Maybe this kid can handle himself.]

Soooo, as a superhero what CAN you do?

Shocking. [Okay, he really likes him now. Meeting heroes from home (or... well, from a place like home) that aren't all super serious like Dick is pretty much makes his day.] Sounds rough, but at least you could turn it into something good, you know? Not everyone can do something like that.

No need to worry! Aside from the unbreakable barrier, the reality-warping experiments, the random drafts, and the kidnapping robots, there isn't much for you superhero types to be concerned with.

[Nope. She can’t do it. Zatanna can’t even get the words out without laughing. She’s heard some good ones along the way, and even seen her share of ridiculous outfits. But she really can’t take this seriously, especially not when the only thing she pictures in her mind is a sock stuck to someone’s pants leg.

[Ami looks back from the journal picture somewhat seriously.]

I think it might be best to be careful about information like that here. [It's a soft reminder that this may be a small village - but it has dangers in it.]

I should also tell you, your friend was here before. [Which means if he found the way out, he left everyone else to suffer.]

[It sounds like something for space travel, in any case, but she doesn't know for sure.]

Hey, people like my electricity-related puns. I mean, maybe the bad guys don't, but that's because they're being electrocuted at the time.

You're telling me. There was over a hundred of us that got hit. Almost everyone decided to use their powers to become super villains. It's a full time job chasing them around, much less just your regular every day bad guys.

It's a TV show. But with some of the fans, it's sort of organization too.

My power's electricity. So if electricity can do it, there's a good chance I can too.

Oh, well thanks. I feel reassured now.
