For what seemed like moments ago, Static watched as his mother vanished into darkness. A barrier constructed of space of time kept him from reaching her. And there'd been nothing he could do. Everything went dark and then there was nothing.

Until now. There was grass, the sounds of chirping birds and the sun getting in his eyes. Immediately Virgil sat up in a panic and looked around frantically.

"Mom!?"

But as far as he could tell, there was nothing. Worse than that, he realized he was in nothing but a pair of white pants that he had way more sense than to ever pick up for himself. And he was in a forest, which didn't bode well. Okay, so you're Virgil right now. In the middle of nowhere. Possibly in Medieval times if Timezone messed things up.

"Oh man. Not good."

Warily, he began to explore.

[Action - Afternoon]

So he was stuck in a place called Luceti. The first thing he did, once he got a chance to be by himself, was circle back to the clothing store and assemble his Static outfit. He found his metal disc at the item shop not long after. So once he felt confident with his much weaker powers, he took off towards the barrier. After about fifteen minutes of pumping it with electricity and getting nowhere, he decided it would be a bad idea to drain himself completely and be forced to walk all the way back to the town. So he returned to town, found a convenient power outlet to draw power from at the Tea Shop, and finally decided to do something about the journal. The question was... introduce himself as Static or as Virgil Hawkins?

Well, the answer was obvious.

[Voice]

So hey, Static here. If you haven’t heard of me, I’m a superhero from Dakota City. But really, has anyone heard of me? No, it’s not in North or South Dakota. I get that a lot. So I guess you could kinda say I’m new here. But I was kind of wondering about how to deal with the superhero thing. There's others here, right? The secret identity thing is pretty important, after all. But it's probably gonna be hard keeping it secret in a small town like this. Unless I just wear the mask all the time. I could probably do that if I have to.

Man, I just wish the Justice League was here. Batman would have already found a way out of this place by now.

You're telling me. And I don't even look good with wings. Who thought this was a good idea?

The Malnosso did. From what I understand, the wings actually work like a universal translator...but your health also depends on them, so be careful about not banging them on things.

I figured the sensitivity thing already. But man, who wants wings for translators? I'd have been happy with a Star Trek badge instead.

What's Star Trek? An organization from your world?

[It sounds like something for space travel, in any case, but she doesn't know for sure.]

It's a TV show. But with some of the fans, it's sort of organization too.

Oh. So it's a kind of nerdy organization, then.

[Now it clicks.]

Still, at least we can all understand each other. That's better than having these wings and all speaking in different languages.

And to think, I was worried about my Spanish test. Now that I've got Babel wings on my back, I don't have to worry.

See? It's not all bad. ...just kind of bad because the Malnosso suck.

That's not so reassuring.

I guess I wouldn't be a very good cheerleader, huh?

Well, maybe those Malnosso guys may not want you, but I think you could pull it off.

[Or maybe he's just saying that because it's a pretty girl on the other side that's talking to him and he can't resist.]

[Bulla laughs.]

Well, yeah, I'm not exactly praising the Malnosso. I can think of a few people who are worse than them, but it's not a long list, I've got to admit.

I'll have to save my list for when I see just how bad they are. I've got a pretty good one to start with already.

Maybe we should compare lists at some point, Static. Some seriously awful creeps have shown up and tried to cause trouble in the past back home. Some have tried to take over the world, others have tried to destroy it...

Well I don't usually deal with that kind of stuff. I mean, I'm a one city-kinda superhero, ya know? But this one alien did show up in Dakota and wanted to destroy the whole world.

I'm kind of lucky that I was born after that was a semi-regular occurrence for my world. Though there was this horrible parasite alien who wanted to control everyone.

[She involuntarily shudders, and the degree to which it creeps her out can be heard in her voice, too.]

I just don't get why aliens are so interested in our planet anyway. Can't they find some other one to bother?

Maybe they heard that Earth has the best parties and it's their idea of party-crashing.

Their idea of party crashing could use some work.

Too bad there's no way to send out a signal to any spaceships entering Earth's atmosphere advising them of basic social etiquette.

Maybe something like:

[And here, she switches to a tone that sounds much like a flight attendant.]

"Welcome to Earth. We hope you enjoy your stay, but first, there are a few simple rules to observe. First, do not try to blow the planet up. Second, do not try to take over. Failure to follow these rules will result in a curb stomping from Earth's heroes. Thank you, and have a pleasant visit."

Maybe throw in a video of said heroes beating up the guys that didn't listen, just so they know we're serious.

Wouldn't that just give them a chance to study what we're capable of and make them more of a pain in the butt to deal with?

With Superman, the only thing you can learn is, "Don't mess with Superman."

Superman sounds like the kind of guy my dad would really enjoy sparring against if he's as strong as it sounds like he is.

[He certainly sounds impressive.]
