Sheena pulled a face. "I don't really like doctors, and I'm not sure they're gonna have the answer for what's going on here. And if they were doing something to the water, wouldn't you be someone else, too?"

[systemshock]

No, because I usually stick with soda. [He always knew it would pay off some day.]

[corrinesbell]

[She can't help snorting. So she had a wise guy kid, huh?]

[systemshock]

He couldn't laugh with her, though. Not as he considered the implications of it all. "You're just having a bad day, that's all."

[corrinesbell]

"Yeah. That's gotta be it. And I guess it's a day I missed work. Any idea where I'm supposed to go tomorrow?" Sheena hoped he would at least eat the dinner. "I found out I'm on strike from the factory."

[systemshock]

"Al's Diner. You've been waitressing there." Though if she missed the day, he wondered if she'd still have the job.

[corrinesbell]

"Al's Diner. Got it. So tomorrow I'll go to work and maybe that'll help my memories and stuff kick back in." At least she had all that tea shop experience to help her cover for herself. Half of that was waitressing. She didn't actually believe that, about memories she didn't own, but she wanted to make him feel better.

[systemshock]

He nodded. Virgil wasn't exactly confident in this plan, but it was something. It was normalcy, at least.

"Yeah. Hopefully."

[corrinesbell]

"Did I really screw us up? By not...doing something today?"

Look, son. She wanted to try to fit into the world just for his sake. Maybe for a day or two, until she could sort out the problem.
